The Earlyman is the brain-child of Ed Cavill, co-producer & guitarist of the seminal soul/ trip-hop outfit Spacek. Championed whilst in Spacek by Gilles Peterson - receiving heavy play on Radio 1 & initially spotted by Mos Def, Ed went on to be signed to Island Records. He is now sole producer of the project "The Earlyman" releasing a selection of EP’s on the east London based label StopStart Records.
Ed wrote his most compelling and recent tracks after the birth of his daughter Lola Una as the album (Due out on Stopstart in 2010) title is dedicated. These tracks often started as sprawling instrumentals, with Ed trying to break the cold loop sound of so many laptop productions. Having grown up with bitches brew headhunters and weather reports, Ed liked the atmosphere and scope in tunes edited down from 15 hour jams. He wanted to create something new and surprising but with enough bounce to move and inspire his collaborators.
The album “Lola Una” features some of the hottest MC talent of the moment and with some especially notable tracks like the storming “Malarkey feat. Killa P” which is set to be a dance floor smash with remixes coming from the likes of The Bug and Heavy Deviance [Check the store for a sneak previews].
Ed is currently locked in the lab with a host of musical talent preparing for The Earlyman live show which is set to wow, inspire and captivate audiences across the UK.
